The Washingtonian: DC Has More Airbnb Listings Per Capita Than NY or LA

A bill pushed by UNITE-HERE Local 25, the union representing the city’s hotel workers, would limit hosts to renting out rooms in occupied units instead of whole houses or apartments. AirBnB plans to take the same lobbying effort it used to win in the San Francisco polls to work work with city and state governments in D.C. While unions and the city’s hotel industry propose legislation for more restrictive regulations, AirBnB will most likely fight accusations of raising rent, disrupting neighborhoods and hurting businesses. But AirBnB has 3,500 listings, with 2,855 that are active in D.C. As well as the votes of 57 percent of people opposing its opponents.
