Voting in the District
If you are already registered to vote, you do not need to take further action to receive a ballot. You can check your registration status here, as well as update it if you have moved.
If you are not registered to vote, you can do so here. If you would prefer to register in person, you can see a calendar of election related events here.
+ Voting by Mail
All active registered voters will receive a Mail In ballot at their registered address beginning the first week in October.
We recommend returning your ballot by placing it in one of the 50 drop sites around DC. You can also return it in person to a polling place, or mail it back as soon as possible, by November 3rd at the very latest. Remember to carefully follow all of the instructions on your mail-in ballot, otherwise your vote may not be counted! Once you've submitted it, you can check the progress of your ballot to make sure there are no issues here.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REQUEST AN ABSENTEE BALLOT! Use the form ONLY if you want your ballot sent to a location other than your registered address!
- Absentee Ballot Request Form: download, fill out, and email to DCabsentee@dcboe.org OR fax to 202-347-2648
Note: Even if the forms indicate that you must print and re-scan, you may save the Absentee Request Form as a pdf, then edit and send without printing.
You must provide your:
- Name
- The election(s) for which you are requesting a ballot
- Voter registration address
- Address of residence
- Phone number and/or email address)
- Date of Birth
- Mailing address to which ballot should be delivered
- Your signature
+ Voting in Person
If you do vote in person, we recommend doing so at an early voting site to avoid lines and crowds. Vote Centers for the November 3 General Election will open Tuesday, October 27, 2020, through Monday, November 2, 2020, from 8:30 am - 7:00 pm. And on November 3, 2020 (Election Day), Vote Centers will open from 7:00 am – 8:00 pm.

Los Centros de Votación para las Elecciones Generales del 3 de noviembre abrirán el martes 27 de octubre de 2020 hasta el lunes 2 de noviembre de 2020, desde las 8:30 am hasta las 7:00pm. Y el 3 de noviembre de 2020 (día de las elecciones), los centros de votación abrirán desde las 7:00 am hasta las 8:00 pm.
